Fine Mesh CatchTraps food scraps and hair before they reach the pipe.
Polished SS201 MetalRust free and unbothered by everyday cleaning products.
Three In The BoxFit the kitchen, the laundry and a spare basin at once.
Dishwasher SafeDrop it in the top rack instead of scrubbing by hand.

Keep food scraps and hair out of your pipes with a fine mesh drain strainer that sits neatly in the plughole and does the dirty work for you.

A set of three polished SS201 metal baskets, 70 mm across the top and 9.5 mm deep, sized for drains with a 42 mm inner opening and safe to pop in the dishwasher.

This fine mesh drain strainer sits flat in the plughole and stops food scraps, coffee grounds and hair from sliding into your pipes.

Each basket measures 70 mm across the outside, drops 9.5 mm into the drain and is made for openings with a 42 mm inner diameter.

The polished SS201 metal does not rust and does not react to the acids or alkalis found in ordinary cleaning products.

Three strainers come in the box, so you can cover the kitchen sink, a bathroom basin and the laundry sink in one go.

Emptying takes a second and the baskets are dishwasher safe when they need a proper clean.

Fine Mesh Drain Strainer 70mm (3 Pack)

Most blocked drains do not happen overnight. They build up slowly from rice grains, tea leaves, bits of onion skin and strands of hair that slip past the plughole and settle in the bend of the pipe. A fine mesh drain strainer breaks that cycle by catching the debris while it is still loose and easy to tip into the bin. It is a small part that saves a lot of unpleasant work later.

Fine Mesh Drain Strainer 70mm (3 Pack)

Each basket in this three pack measures 70 mm across the rim and drops 9.5 mm into the drain opening. That matters more than it sounds. The rim rests on the lip of the plughole while the mesh body sits inside, so the strainer stays put when water rushes past instead of floating or sliding sideways. The design is made for drains with a 42 mm inner opening, which is a very common size for kitchen sinks and basins.

Fine Mesh Drain Strainer 70mm (3 Pack)

The metal is polished SS201, which does not rust and shrugs off the acids and alkalis in everyday cleaning liquids. That means you can leave a strainer sitting in a wet sink day after day without it going spotty or weak. The polished finish also keeps it looking tidy, which counts when the thing lives in plain sight in the middle of your sink.

Fine Mesh Drain Strainer 70mm (3 Pack)

Three strainers in one box is practical rather than generous. One lives in the kitchen sink where it works hardest. One goes in the bathroom basin or the shower drain to catch hair. The third is either a spare for the laundry sink or a backup for the day one goes missing in the dishwasher. Cleaning is simple, just lift, tip, rinse, and put it back.

Fine Mesh Drain Strainer 70mm (3 Pack)

Before you buy, take thirty seconds to measure your drain. The inner diameter of your plughole needs to be around 42 mm and the recess needs to be at least 9.5 mm deep, otherwise the basket will sit proud of the surface. Getting that measurement right is the difference between a strainer that disappears into the sink and one that never quite settles.

Not sure yet? That is fine.

A drain part has to fit the drain you have, and you cannot always judge that from a photograph. If it is not right for you, send it back within 14 days of delivery in resaleable condition and we refund the price you paid, including standard delivery. That is a voluntary policy we offer on top of your legal rights.

If it turns up faulty, damaged or not as described, that is on us. We pay the return postage, with your protection under the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act 2003 unaffected. Read the full detail on our refunds and returns page, or ask us anything before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does this product actually do?

It sits in your sink or basin plughole and filters the water that goes down it. Food scraps, coffee grounds, tea leaves and hair stay in the mesh basket while the water passes through. You lift it out, tip the debris into the bin, and drop it back in.

How many strainers come in the box?

Three. The unit count listed by the manufacturer is 3 pieces. That lets you fit the kitchen sink, a bathroom basin and one more drain without buying a second pack.

What size drain does it fit?

It is made for drains with an inner opening of 42 mm. The strainer itself measures 70 mm across the outer rim, which rests on the surface around the hole. If your plughole opening is much wider or narrower than 42 mm, this size will not seat properly.

How deep does the strainer sit in the drain?

The basket drops 9.5 mm into the opening. Measure the recess in your drain before ordering. If the drain is shallower than 9.5 mm the basket will stick up above the sink surface instead of sitting flush.

What is it made from?

Polished metal in SS201 quality. The manufacturer states that this metal does not rust and does not react to acids or alkalis found in ordinary cleaning agents, so it holds up to a wet sink and regular washing.

Will it rust if I leave it in a wet sink?

The material is described as rust free, which is the whole point of using stainless grade metal for a part that lives in standing water. Drying it occasionally still helps keep the polished finish bright, but constant moisture is what it is built for.

Is it dishwasher safe?

Yes. The strainers can go in the dishwasher when they need more than a rinse. The top rack is usually the easiest spot since they are small and light.

Can I use it in the bathroom as well as the kitchen?

Yes, as long as the basin drain matches the 42 mm inner diameter and the 9.5 mm depth. Many people use one as a drain hair catcher in the bathroom basin and keep another in the kitchen for food scraps.

Does it work as a shower drain hair trap?

It can, if the shower drain opening is the right size. Shower drains vary a lot in diameter, so measure first. Where it fits, a fine mesh sink sieve is very good at holding hair.

How fine is the mesh?

It is a fine mesh designed to catch food waste and hair rather than just large chunks. Fine enough to stop rice grains and loose strands, open enough that water still drains at a normal rate.

Will it slow the water down?

Not noticeably when clean. If you have just rinsed a colander of rice or washed long hair, the mesh can fill and drain more slowly. A quick empty and rinse sorts that out straight away.

How often should I empty it?

After each washing up session is ideal in the kitchen. In a bathroom basin, every few days is usually enough. The more often you empty it, the less you have to touch anything unpleasant.

How do I clean it properly?

Tip the debris into the bin, then rinse under the tap. Once in a while, scrub the mesh with a soft brush and a little dish soap, or run it through the dishwasher. Skip steel wool, which can scratch the polished surface.

Can I use bleach or drain cleaner around it?

The metal is stated to be unreactive to acids and alkalis from cleaning agents. Even so, it is sensible to remove the strainer before pouring strong drain treatments down the pipe, simply so the chemical goes where you want it.

Will it stop my drain blocking completely?

It stops the usual culprits, which are food solids and hair. It cannot do anything about grease that pours through as a liquid and cools in the pipe. Catching the solids plus wiping oily pans before washing is the combination that keeps pipes clear.

Does it fit a standard kitchen sink plughole?

It fits the very common 42 mm inner opening. Kitchen sinks do come in several drain sizes, though, so a tape measure or ruler across the hole is the only way to know for sure.

Does it work with a basket waste or pop up plug?

Only if you can remove the existing basket or plug and the remaining opening measures about 42 mm with at least 9.5 mm of depth. Fixed pop up assemblies often do not leave room for a separate strainer.

Can I still use the sink plug with it in place?

In most setups a rubber plug can sit on top of the strainer rim to hold water. A plug that needs to drop into the drain opening itself will not fit while the basket is in place.

Is it suitable for outdoor use?

The maker notes it is suitable for both indoor and exterior use. An outdoor sink, a laundry sink in a carport or a storeroom basin are all reasonable places for one of the spares.

What colour is it?

A specific colour is not given by the maker beyond the variant name listing the size. The finish is described as polished metal, which reads as a bright silver tone.

How much does the pack weigh?

The shipping weight is not specified by the maker. The strainers themselves are small, light metal baskets measuring roughly 7 cm wide and 1 cm high each.

Where is it made?

The country of origin is not specified by the maker.

Will it scratch my sink?

The rim rests on the sink surface rather than being dragged across it, so normal use is gentle. As with any metal item, avoid sliding it around a coated or enamel sink and lift it straight out instead.

How long will a set last?

Because the metal does not rust or react to cleaning products, a set like this usually lasts for years of daily use. The main way people lose one is leaving it in the dishwasher, which is partly why three come in the box.

Is this a good gift idea?

It is a genuinely useful housewarming or moving in extra, especially bundled with other kitchen basics. Three strainers in one box means the recipient can fit out a whole flat at once.

How is it delivered?

Most orders arrive within 7 to 12 working days of the order date. Our products are sent from overseas warehouses, so allow for that if you need it by a set date. Delivery is to Singapore addresses only, free on orders of $150 or more and a flat $20 under that, and you get tracking by email once the parcel is on its way.

What if I order the wrong size?

Measure first if you can, since this version only suits a 42 mm inner opening with a 9.5 mm recess. If the size is wrong, contact us and we will help with a return or point you to the measurements you need for a different fit.

Can I buy more than one pack?

Yes. People with several bathrooms, a laundry and an outdoor sink often buy two packs so there is always a clean spare on hand while one is in the dishwasher.

What if it is not right for my sink?

Get in touch with our support team and tell us what your drain measures. We will arrange a return under our standard returns policy, and if another size in the range suits your drain better we will tell you which numbers to look for.

What should I check before I order?

Measure your own drain or fitting and compare it with the sizes on this page. Sizes are the maker's stated sizes, so allow for small differences.

How To Choose A Sink Strainer That Actually Fits

6 min read Drains Company

The problem nobody thinks about until it is too late

A blocked kitchen drain is one of those jobs that always lands at the worst moment. The sink fills, the water does not move, and you end up on your knees with a bucket and a wrench under the cupboard, pulling apart a pipe trap full of grey sludge.

Here is the thing. That sludge is not mysterious. It is rice, pasta, coffee grounds, tea leaves, onion skins, flecks of egg shell and, in the bathroom, hair. Every single one of those things went down the plughole because there was nothing in the way to stop it.

A fine mesh drain strainer is the thing in the way. It costs very little, takes no installation, and intercepts the debris while it is still dry enough to tip into a bin. Once you have used one for a month you stop noticing it, which is exactly how a good bit of kitchen hardware should behave.

How a mesh strainer works

The design is simple on purpose. A shallow metal basket with a fine mesh floor sits in the plughole. The rim is wider than the hole, so it rests on the lip around the drain. The body drops into the opening and holds itself in place against the flow of water.

Water goes through the mesh. Solids do not. That is the whole mechanism.

The reason a fine mesh matters, rather than a few big punched holes, is scale. Big holes catch potato peel. They do nothing about the rice grains and coffee grounds that actually build the clog. A proper fine mesh sink sieve catches the small stuff, and the small stuff is what causes the trouble.

The second reason is hair. In a bathroom basin, hair is the main problem, and hair slips through anything with gaps wider than a couple of millimetres. A fine mesh holds it on the surface where you can see it and pick it off.

The measurements that decide everything

This is the part people skip, and it is the only part that really matters when you are buying.

A sink strainer is not a one size fits all product. There are three numbers that have to work together.

Outer diameter. This one is 70 mm. It is the width of the rim that sits on your sink surface. It needs to be wider than the hole so the strainer does not fall in.

Inner diameter of your drain. This version is built for openings of 42 mm. That is the size of the actual hole in your sink. Measure straight across the widest point of the opening, not across the decorative ring around it.

Depth. The basket drops 9.5 mm into the drain. If the recess in your plughole is shallower than that, the basket will not seat and will sit up proud of the sink, where it rocks and gets knocked out of place.

Grab a ruler or a tape measure and take those two readings from your own sink before you order anything. Thirty seconds of measuring avoids the most common reason people return a strainer. If your drain opening comes out at 52 mm or your recess is 20 mm deep, this is not your size, and that is useful to know in advance.

Why the metal matters

A sink strainer lives in water. Not occasionally, but constantly. That rules out a lot of materials.

These baskets are made from polished metal in SS201 quality. Two properties matter. It does not rust, so it will not leave orange marks in a white sink or weaken at the seams after a few months. And it does not react to acids or alkalis in cleaning agents, which means your dish soap, your citrus cleaner and your weekly sink scrub will not degrade it.

Plastic strainers are cheaper, but they stain, they go brittle in hot water, and the thin ones crack at the rim. Chrome plated versions look fine until the plating lifts. A solid stainless steel sink strainer just keeps being a stainless steel sink strainer.

The polished finish is a small bonus. Because the strainer sits in the middle of your sink where everyone sees it, a bright finish blends into a steel sink far better than a dull or discoloured one.

Who this suits

Households that cook properly. If you rinse rice, drain pasta, scrape plates and wash vegetables, your drain is taking a steady load of solids every day. A kitchen plughole filter is the single cheapest piece of prevention available.

Anyone with long hair in the house. Bathroom basins and shower drains clog almost entirely from hair. A drain hair catcher sitting in the basin turns a yearly plumbing job into a ten second weekly task.

Renters. You are not drilling anything or modifying the plumbing. The strainer drops in and lifts out, and it comes with you when you move.

Keeping solids out is more important, not less.

Anyone fitting out a new place. Three in a pack covers a kitchen, a bathroom and a laundry sink, which is most of a small home sorted in one order.

Keeping it clean

This is not demanding. After washing up, lift the basket, tip the contents straight into the bin or the compost caddy, and give it a rinse under the tap. Put it back. That is the daily routine and it takes about five seconds.

Every week or two, the mesh benefits from a proper clean. Grease and fine particles build a film that slows drainage. A soft brush and a drop of dish soap clears it. Or just drop the basket into the dishwasher with the next load, since these are dishwasher safe.

Two things to avoid. Do not attack the mesh with steel wool, because it scratches the polish and can distort the fine wires. And do not leave a full basket sitting for days, because wet food residue smells and attracts flies far faster than the same scraps in a closed bin.

If you ever need to clear a build up from the mesh itself, a soak in warm water with a little white vinegar loosens most of it without any scrubbing.

Making the most of three

A three pack is not just spares. Spread them around.

Put the hardest working one in the kitchen sink. Put a second in whichever bathroom basin collects the most hair. The third can go in the laundry sink, an outdoor sink, or stay in the drawer as the clean swap while the kitchen one is in the dishwasher.

That rotation is genuinely handy. You never have a sink sitting unprotected just because the strainer is mid wash.

What a strainer will not fix

Worth being straight about this. A mesh strainer catches solids. It does not catch grease.

Hot fat and oil pour through the mesh as a liquid, then cool and solidify on the walls of the pipe, where they trap everything else. If you regularly pour cooking fat down the sink, a strainer alone will not keep the drain clear.

The fix is simple. Wipe greasy pans with a paper towel before washing, and pour cooled fat into a jar for the bin. Do that alongside using the strainer and your pipes stay genuinely clear.

The short version

A sink strainer is one of the few household items where the cheap version and the right version are the same thing, as long as you get the size right.

Measure your drain opening. If it is around 42 mm across with a recess of at least 9.5 mm, this 70 mm fine mesh set drops straight in. The metal resists rust, cleaning products will not harm it, and it goes in the dishwasher when it needs it.

Three in a box means you can cover the kitchen, the bathroom and one more drain at once. After that, the only thing you have to do is tip it into the bin and rinse it, which is a much better deal than taking apart a pipe trap on a Sunday afternoon.
